Ebola in Nigeria: Hygiene Lessons We Must Not Forget
Nigeria has confirmed an imported case of Ebola Bundibugyo virus disease in the Federal Capital Territory, according to the World Health Organization. The report is a reminder to stay informed, avoid panic and follow guidance from health authorities. Ebola spreads mainly through direct contact with the blood or body fluids of a person who has symptoms, contaminated objects, or infected animals. It does not spread through the air like measles. Not every fever or illness is Ebola, but early reporting and proper public-health precautions matter. We should keep simple hygiene habits: wash hands with soap and clean running water after using the toilet and before eating, store food in clean covered containers, dispose of waste properly and keep our surroundings clean. These habits protect us from many illnesses, not only during an outbreak.
