Zenith Bank Posts ₦637bn Half-Year Pre-Tax Profit, Raises Interim Dividend to ₦1.50
Zenith Bank reported a 2% rise in pre-tax profit to ₦637 billion for the first half of the year, up from ₦625.6 billion in the same period last year. The bank proposed an interim dividend of ₦1.50 per share, a 20% increase from ₦1.25. Profit after tax fell 19% to ₦430.7 billion after its tax charge more than doubled to ₦206 billion under the Nigeria Tax Act 2025. Without the higher tax rate, net profit would have been slightly above last year's level. Lower funding costs helped lift the bank's net interest margin to 12.4%, while net fee and commission income rose 40% on stronger digital transaction volumes. Gross loans grew to ₦12.57 trillion, customer deposits reached ₦26.35 trillion, and the non-performing loan ratio improved to 3.78%. Trading income declined as the stronger naira led to revaluation losses. The interim dividend represents 14% of first-half profit, leaving room for a potentially higher final payout.
