Omekwe Tari-Ama Chiefs Reject Alleged Installation of Gilles Clark Georgewill as Amayanabo
The Council of Chiefs of Omekwe Tari-Ama in Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State has rejected the alleged installation of Gilles Clark Georgewill as Amayanabo of the community. In a statement issued after an emergency meeting on 25 September 2026, the council said the community remains under the leadership of its Regent and Council of Chiefs, in line with Kalabari custom. The council alleged that suspended former officials and other individuals organised the installation without authority. It said some of the individuals involved had previously been suspended or removed from the council over allegations of misconduct, which it said had been reported to relevant authorities. The council urged the public to disregard the purported installation and said it remains focused on peace, community development and investment opportunities in Omekwe Tari-Ama.
