Fenerbahçe players were asked in a social-media segment which footballer first comes to mind when they hear Nigeria. Most of those interviewed chose former Super Eagles captain Jay-Jay Okocha. Marco Asensio, Romelu Lukaku, N’Golo Kanté, Vedat Muriqi and several others named Okocha, who became a fan favourite during his two seasons at Fenerbahçe. Mason Greenwood selected former Chelsea and Nigeria midfielder John Obi Mikel. Victor Osimhen was not mentioned, despite his recent Galatasaray form. Fans linked the omission to the intense Fenerbahçe-Galatasaray rivalry, while Okocha’s popularity reflects his 30 goals in 62 appearances for Fenerbahçe between 1996 and 1998.
