Italian Parish Mourns Priest Found Dead After Transfer Announcement
A 75-year-old Catholic priest, Lino Zatelli, was found dead at his home in Trento, Italy, on August 12 after reportedly learning he would be transferred from the parish where he had served for almost 25 years. He was due to celebrate Mass at San Carlo Borromeo Church but did not arrive. The church sacristan later went to his home and found his body. Zatelli had reportedly told parishioners that he did not want to leave. Residents had also launched a petition asking the diocese to allow him to remain. While the transfer cannot be confirmed as the direct cause of his death, the incident has renewed concerns about isolation, emotional strain and support systems for elderly clergy.
