MKO Documentary Opens in 48 Cinemas, Revisiting Nigeria’s June 12 Struggle
A 108-minute documentary on the life of Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola and the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election is now showing in 48 cinemas nationwide. Directed by Nigerian-American filmmaker Ose Oyamendan and distributed by Nile Entertainment, *MKO* premiered at the National Theatre in Lagos on October 1 before its commercial cinema release. Screenings are available in cities including Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Benin City, Enugu, Ibadan, Kaduna and Jos. The film follows Abiola’s political journey, the election widely believed to have been won by him, its annulment and the democracy struggle that followed. The project reportedly took about 13 years to complete and aims to introduce younger Nigerians to the history behind June 12.
