Keisha Lance Bottoms Makes History With Georgia Governor Election Win
Keisha Lance Bottoms has been elected governor of Georgia, becoming the first Black woman to win a gubernatorial election in United States history. She defeated Republican Rick Jackson by 353,179 votes, receiving about 54.2 per cent of the vote. “I will be a governor for all of Georgia,” she said after the result was announced. Bottoms was mayor of Atlanta from 2018 to 2022 and later served as a senior adviser in former President Joe Biden’s White House. Her victory ends more than two decades of Republican control of Georgia’s governor’s office.
