German FA Vice-President Calls for Infantino to Leave FIFA Office
German Football Association vice-president Hans-Joachim Watzke has called for FIFA president Gianni Infantino to step down, saying there can be “no ifs or buts” about his departure. Speaking at a technology festival in Berlin, Watzke criticised the creation of FIFA’s Peace Prize, FIFA’s reported handling of Folarin Balogun’s World Cup suspension, and a withdrawn plan to open World Cup-related assets to private investors. He said senior FIFA officials were not properly consulted on key decisions. DFB president Bernd Neuendorf has also said trust between the German federation and Infantino’s leadership has broken down. Infantino is currently the only declared candidate ahead of FIFA’s presidential election scheduled for March 2027.
