Armed Bandits Raid Awon Village in Southern Kaduna, Kill Two and Kidnap Seven
On Monday morning, about 30 armed men on 15 motorcycles stormed Awon village in Southern Kaduna. They split into groups and opened fire on residents, killing two people. The victims, Joseph Sule and Awilo Madugu, were shot dead. Seven others were abducted, including Gift Victor, Hannatu Yusuf, Salina Sam, Silvia Sam, Dogarah Maisamari, Hassana Bulus and Joy Samaila. Three girls who fled into the bush are still unaccounted for. One person wounded during the attack is now in critical condition at a local hospital. Just days earlier, on April 12, gunmen had attempted to raid the village during a church service but were repelled by military forces. Violent raids and kidnappings have become common in Southern Kaduna, forcing many communities to live in fear and displacement.
