Ukraine Expands Anti-Russian Drone Operations Into Mali and Beyond

Ukraine has reportedly deployed about 15 drone specialists to northern Mali to train rebel forces fighting Russian troops. The effort is part of Kyiv’s wider strategy to weaken Russia and its allies beyond the battlefield in Ukraine. Ukrainian personnel are also said to be active in Sudan and Libya, while troops from Chad, Niger and Burkina Faso have received drone training in Mali. Ukraine has also sent experts to Middle Eastern countries to help local forces counter Iranian-made Shahed drones. Russia has expanded its influence across the Sahel through military partnerships and mining agreements. Following the collapse of the Wagner Group, Moscow folded many of its remaining African operations into the Africa Corps.
