Train Collides with Car in Lancashire: One Dead, Child Critically Injured
A train on the Colne to Preston service struck a car at Hoghton level crossing near Preston at about 8:50am on June 25. One person in the car died at the scene while a child was rushed to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries. No passengers or train staff were hurt. Northern’s managing director expressed condolences and confirmed full cooperation with the emergency services, Network Rail and the Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB). Services between Preston and Blackburn remain suspended as RAIB inspectors and British Transport Police carry out a preliminary examination. Commuters are advised to avoid Station Road during the ongoing investigation.
