AMAC Farmers Seek Clarity on ₦250m Fertiliser Plan for 2026 Cropping Season
Farmers in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) are asking the council to clarify how its proposed ₦250 million fertiliser intervention will be implemented. The 2026 Agriculture and Natural Resources budget lists six trucks of NPK and Urea fertilisers for subsidised sale to farmers at ₦35,000 per bag. Farmer groups in Orozo, Karshi, Jiwa and Kabusa say they need clear information on procurement, delivery dates, verified beneficiaries and ward-by-ward distribution plans. They say many growers are still buying fertiliser at high market prices as the cropping season progresses. The budget also contains allocations for tractors, farmland acquisition, sprayers, irrigation materials, seeds, livestock support and fish farming projects. However, a budget allocation does not by itself prove that money has been released or spent. Farmers and civil society groups are therefore calling on AMAC to publish an implementation report, including contract awards, delivery records and beneficiary registers.
