After Studio Fire Destroyed Her Archive, Onalaja Rebuilds for London Fashion Week

Two months before ONALAJA’s London Fashion Week debut, a fire destroyed more than a decade of the label’s work, including its archive and original SS27 collection. Rather than abandon the show, the designer rebuilt. The loss became the inspiration for Re;Birth, a collection centred on transformation, resilience and beginning again. The collection moves through three stages: The Burn, in ember red and burnt orange tones; The Ash, with scorched black and smoky grey textures; and The Rebirth, which introduces molten gold, iridescence and vivid colour. Originally conceived in 2020, Re;Birth took on a more personal meaning after the fire. It now reflects the designer’s own experience of rebuilding from loss.
