EFCC, ICPC Investigate NFF’s Use of ₦12 Billion Fund for Players’ Wages and Bonuses
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission are investigating how the Nigeria Football Federation used a ₦12 billion Federal Government intervention fund meant for players’ wages, bonuses and other national-team obligations. The NFF disclosed the probe in a response to a Freedom of Information request for records on the fund’s utilisation. The federation said the requested documents were already before the EFCC and ICPC, but did not state the specific transactions or officials under investigation. The fund was approved to clear outstanding salaries, allowances and promises owed to national teams, including the Super Eagles, women’s teams and Under-20 sides. The development has renewed scrutiny of football administration and public spending, especially amid reports of tensions over the planned NFF election and the management of Nigerian football.
