Fast-Food Manager Faces Felony Poisoning Charge Over Alleged Spitting Incident

Fast-Food Manager Faces Felony Poisoning Charge Over Alleged Spitting Incident — 1 of 2
1 / 2

A former manager at a fast-food chain in Broken Bow, Oklahoma is accused of spitting into a customer’s sandwich and causing her to contract HSV-1 (herpes). Court records show she handled the meat, lowered her head toward the food and let saliva fall onto the order during a late-night drive-thru visit on March 28. Police launched an investigation after an employee report and obtained surveillance footage that reportedly captured the contaminating act. The customer, who filed a lawsuit against the restaurant and the manager, later tested positive for herpes and claims the infection came from the tainted meal. The case has led to both criminal charges of felony poisoning with intent to injure and a civil lawsuit. Relatives who shared portions of the meal say they feared exposure, though no further infections have been reported.

It seems odd that someone would risk their career and face felony charges just to spit on an order.
