Five Nigerian Women Rescued After Being Lured Abroad With Fake Job Offers

Five Nigerian women have been rescued from a trafficking network after they were allegedly deceived with promises of legitimate jobs and forced into prostitution in Côte d'Ivoire. The survivors said they were recruited with offers of work in baking, hairdressing, and clothing sales before being moved across borders and trapped. They recounted months of abuse, threats, and control. According to their testimonies, the traffickers seized their phones, forced them to lie to their families, and took all the money they made. Some said they were made to see as many as 10 or 11 clients a day. The victims were eventually rescued through coordinated efforts involving NAPTIP, anti-trafficking advocates, and local authorities in Côte d'Ivoire. They have called on the Nigerian government to do more to stop trafficking syndicates and to help survivors rebuild their lives.
