Oliseh: NFF Urged Me Not to Invite Enyeama, Mikel and Emenike
Former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh says the Nigeria Football Federation advised him against inviting Vincent Enyeama, John Obi Mikel and Emmanuel Emenike when he took charge in 2015. Oliseh said he was told the senior players had caused problems in the squad during the previous coaching regime. He said he preferred to speak with them and explain his plans before deciding on their places in the team. According to Oliseh, he travelled to meet then-captain Enyeama and also tried to contact Mikel. He said Victor Moses attended a planned meeting in London, while Mikel did not. Oliseh added that Emenike's international retirement remained one of his major regrets as coach. Oliseh led the Super Eagles from July 2015 until his resignation in February 2016. His comments reopen the debate over whether national-team coaches should have complete control over player selection.
