Customs Arrests Three in Kano as Gorillas, Chimpanzees and Albino Alligators Are Seized
Nigeria Customs Service officers in the Kano/Jigawa Area Command have arrested three suspects over the alleged trafficking of endangered wildlife along the Daura-Kano Road. The intelligence-led operation took place at about 8:30 p.m. on 25 August 2026. Officers recovered two baby gorillas, four chimpanzees, a caracal, red patas monkeys, bush babies, a honey badger, two albino alligators, rock fowls, a civet cat and 19 greater bustards. Customs said the suspects allegedly tried several times to bribe the patrol team. The animals and suspects have been handed over to relevant authorities for further investigation and action. The command said the seizure was carried out under the Nigeria Customs Service Act and international rules protecting endangered wildlife.
