PDP Faction Aligned with Wike Elects Peter Tongshep as Plateau Chairman
Jos — A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has elected Peter Tongshep as its new state chairman. He and 38 other executives were chosen during a peaceful consensus congress in Jos. The congress was held under tight security and supervised by a seven-member INEC delegation. Key stakeholders present included former Sports Ministers Damishi Sango and Musa I. Azi, BoT members Timothy Golu and Rt. Hon. Johnbul Shekarau, and other party leaders. This development comes amid legal battles and rival factional congresses in other states. Some observers warn the parallel structures could weaken the PDP ahead of future elections, while others say a recent Court of Appeal judgment in favor of the Wike group opens the door to reconciliation. State PDP spokesman Dr. Samaila Rukuba described the congress as peaceful and orderly. He urged all members in Plateau to focus on reconciliation and prepare for the national convention in Abuja on the 29th.
