Ghana Sentences Nigerian Trader to Seven Years for Human Trafficking
Ghana Immigration Service has secured a seven-year jail term for Ada Peace, a Nigerian national convicted of human trafficking and immigration offences. She lured two young women from Nigeria with false job offers and forced them into commercial sex work by exploiting debt. GIS investigators rescued the victims, aged 21 and 13, during an intelligence-led operation in Asankragwa. The court heard that Peace and an accomplice recruited the women through contacts in Nigeria and brought them into Ghana via unapproved border routes. Authorities say the victims were coerced under spiritual threats to repay debts of six million Naira. Peace faced four charges, including human trafficking and illegal entry, while her accomplice was fined and discharged. The Comptroller-General of Immigration warned that traffickers now use social media and fake job listings to exploit vulnerable people. He urged the public to report suspicious offers and support ongoing efforts to combat transnational crimes.
