Flick Explains Yamal’s Slow Start After World Cup and Injury Recovery

Flick Explains Yamal’s Slow Start After World Cup and Injury Recovery — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick says Lamine Yamal’s slow start to the 2026/27 La Liga season is linked to a demanding summer, injury recovery and a short holiday. The 19-year-old played for Spain at the World Cup after returning from a major injury, then had only three weeks off before rejoining Barcelona. Flick admitted Yamal was below his usual standard in the opening matches. However, the coach praised the winger’s work rate and tactical discipline after he completed 90 minutes in Barcelona’s 2-0 win over Athletic Club. Flick added that Yamal remains positive in training and has already shown signs of returning to his best form.
