Armed attackers abducted the Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area in Zamfara State, Nura Umar Abdullahi, after storming his residence in the early hours of 25 July 2026. Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA responded after gunfire was reported and engaged the attackers. Five of the chairman’s relatives were rescued unharmed: his wife, mother, two children and another relative. Two police officers, a local vigilante and a civilian were killed in the attack. The chairman’s elder brother was injured. The attackers fled into surrounding bushes with the council chairman. Security agencies, including the military, police, DSS and local vigilantes, have launched a coordinated operation to locate and rescue him.
