Boko Haram Strike: Nigerian Army Commander Lt. Col. Umar Farouq Among Dead
A coordinated Boko Haram attack on the military base in Kukawa, Borno State, has claimed the life of Lieutenant Colonel Umar Farouq, the base’s commanding officer. Militants overran the camp, set vehicles ablaze, and seized ammunition. The attackers then struck nearby communities in Kukawa LGA, killing troops and burning armoured tanks. Sources confirm Col. Farouq’s death less than 72 hours after another commander, Lt. Col. S.I. Iliyasu, fell in Konduga. In recent weeks, insurgents have launched multiple strikes on bases in Konduga, Mainok, Jakana, and Marte. The military reports it killed scores of terrorists while repelling the assaults and recovered over 40 soldiers’ bodies from the latest raids.
