Francis Duru: Igbos Must Build Collective Support in Nollywood
Veteran actor Francis Duru says Igbo filmmakers and investors need stronger collective support to expand Igbo stories, heritage and opportunities in Nollywood. He said Igbo entrepreneurs played a major role in driving Nigeria’s home-video boom in the 1990s and early 2000s. However, he argued that Yoruba filmmakers have built a more visible presence through collaboration, cultural promotion and investment in their own people. Duru urged Igbos to learn from that approach rather than resent Yoruba success. He also called for more films about Igbo history and prominent personalities, while encouraging investors to identify and support new opportunities in the industry.
