Rivers Seals 21 Unregistered Health Facilities, Arrests Three Operators
The Rivers State Ministry of Health has sealed 21 substandard or unregistered health facilities across Port Harcourt, Obio/Akpor, Ikwerre and Etche local government areas. Three operators were arrested during the third-quarter inspection and enforcement exercise. Officials said 19 of the affected facilities were unregistered. Another registered centre was shut after inspectors found no licensed doctor or nurse on duty. The facilities included hospitals, maternity centres and diagnostic laboratories. One clinic in Elelenwo was sealed during a joint operation over suspected child-trafficking activities. The ministry also said it is investigating reports that more than 150 medical outfits in the state may be operating without registration. Residents were advised to check that facilities display a valid Certificate of Standards before seeking treatment.
