Buratai Clarifies CDS Remarks Were Operational, Not Political
Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai has clarified that the recent remarks by the Chief of Defence Staff on collaborators aiding insurgents were strictly operational, not political. He made this clarification during an interview on Channels Television amid growing public debate. He explained that “collaborators” refers to individuals providing support to insurgents through intelligence, logistics, and supplies, not political actors. Buratai warned that misinterpretation could create unnecessary tension and distract from real security challenges in Nigeria’s North-East. He stressed that dismantling these support networks is key to the counter-insurgency strategy. He urged better public and media understanding of military communications. He emphasized that coordinated efforts between the military, intelligence agencies, and civilians are essential to tackling insurgency.
