Peter Obi: Corruption Allegations Seem to Disappear After Defection to APC

Peter Obi has criticised Nigeria's political system, alleging that politicians facing corruption accusations are often treated as cleared once they defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Speaking on a television political programme, Obi said Nigerian political parties lack clear ideologies and are driven largely by personal interests. He argued that the country needs leaders with competence, integrity and compassion rather than politicians who switch parties for personal gain. The former Anambra State governor also alleged that the APC is weakening opposition parties through interference in their internal crises. He said he would protect opposition parties and allow them to operate freely if elected president. Obi further dismissed the idea that endorsements from state governors would automatically guarantee President Bola Tinubu victory in the 2027 election, arguing that governors do not always represent the views of their people.
