Seyi Olofinjana Says NFF Never Explained His 2010 World Cup Omission
Former Super Eagles midfielder Seyi Olofinjana says he was never told why he was omitted from Nigeria’s squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Olofinjana said he played throughout the qualification campaign and captained the team in several matches, yet received no call or explanation from the coaching crew, players or Nigeria Football Federation officials. The 48-cap former international said he accepts that no player has an automatic right to selection, but believes a player who served as captain deserved clear communication. He returned to the national team after the World Cup and made his final appearance in Nigeria’s 3-0 win over Kenya in March 2011.
