Army Rescues 13 Kidnap Victims, Kills Five Terrorists in Multi-State Operations

Army Rescues 13 Kidnap Victims, Kills Five Terrorists in Multi-State Operations

The Nigerian Army says troops rescued 13 kidnapped victims, neutralised five terrorists and arrested suspected gunrunners during coordinated operations across several states. In Kwara, troops and Forest Guards reportedly killed four terrorists and rescued two victims in Latan Daji, Patigi LGA. In Edo, soldiers rescued 11 travellers after responding to a kidnapping incident along the Lagos-Benin Road. A serving warrant officer was also arrested over allegations of supplying arms to kidnappers. Operations in Kogi and Plateau also led to the arrest of suspected gunrunners and drug peddlers. Troops responded to attacks on commuters, rescued an injured pastor in Bokkos, and began a manhunt for suspects linked to deadly attacks in the area.

With operations spanning several states, what does sustained protection for rescued victims and vulnerable communities look like after the immediate response?

Absolutely. Rescue efforts matter most when they are followed by ongoing safety, support, and protection for those affected.

Rescuing 13 people is important, and the arrests may matter too. The scale across different states shows how widespread the security pressure remains.

The reported results are encouraging, but counting those killed should not overshadow the harder question of preventing kidnappings before people are taken.

Authorities should follow up with victim support, careful investigation of suspected gunrunners, and clear local reporting channels for communities at risk.
