Peterside Urges African Leaders to Turn Research Into Actionable Policies
Former NIMASA Director-General Dakuku Peterside has urged African leaders to move beyond policy drafting and focus on evidence-based implementation that delivers measurable improvements in citizens’ lives. Speaking at the launch of the African Leadership Legacy Project at the African University of Science and Technology in Abuja, Peterside said the disconnect between research institutions and government remains a major barrier to development. He called for stronger collaboration among universities, policymakers, government and the private sector. AUST President Peter Onwualu said Africa’s challenge is often not a shortage of policies, but weak institutions, limited political commitment and inconsistent implementation. The 18-month project aims to promote research-led leadership, institutional reforms and practical solutions across the continent.
