Pamela Anderson Recalls Hepatitis C Diagnosis Doctors Called a “Death Sentence”

Pamela Anderson has recalled being diagnosed with hepatitis C in the late 1990s, saying doctors initially told her she had about 10 years to live. Speaking at the 2026 amfAR Gala Venezia in Italy, the Baywatch star said the diagnosis left her deeply worried about the future of her two young sons. She previously said she contracted the virus after sharing a tattoo needle with her former husband, Tommy Lee. Anderson received treatment when more effective medication became available and was declared free of hepatitis C in 2015. She said the shame and guilt surrounding the illness stayed with her for years, but added that she now sees herself as “a victor” rather than a victim. She was honoured with the Award of Courage at the event, which supports medical research and efforts to end AIDS.
