Nigeria Must Target the Financiers and Suppliers Behind Banditry
Nigeria cannot defeat banditry by focusing only on the people carrying guns. Criminal groups depend on wider networks that may provide weapons, ammunition, transport, money, intelligence and access to markets for stolen property. Security agencies should investigate the source of recovered firearms, follow suspicious financial flows and identify those who knowingly supply or profit from violent crime. This must be done through evidence, lawful investigations and fair prosecution, not rumours or political accusations. Nigerians also deserve measurable updates: how many arms-trafficking and criminal-financing cases have led to prosecutions, convictions or asset recovery? The real test is whether supply chains are being dismantled and affected communities are becoming safer.
