US Disables Three Iranian Oil Tankers After Alleged Missile Attack on Navy Ships
US Central Command says American forces disabled three Iranian crude oil tankers after Iran’s Revolutionary Guard allegedly fired ballistic missiles at two US Navy warships in regional waters. CENTCOM said an aircraft carrier and a guided-missile destroyer avoided the attacks, and no US personnel were injured. The military identified the vessels as part of an oil network it says generates funds for the Revolutionary Guard and its regional allies. According to CENTCOM, the M/T Downy was disabled off Kharg Island, the M/T Stark 1 was disabled near Jask, and the M/T Kylo, also known as Noxen, was destroyed in the Gulf of Oman. It said the Kylo’s crew were told to leave the vessel before the strike. The operation marks a significant escalation in tensions between the United States and Iran, with Washington warning that further attacks on its forces could lead to additional action against Iran’s oil fleet.
