GIW Seeks NiDCOM Records Over ₦1.4bn Audit Observations
Global Integrity Watch says it has identified about ₦1.409 billion in audit observations relating to the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission’s 2023 audit period. It is seeking NiDCOM’s 2023 to 2025 financial statements, audit reports, management responses and procurement records through a Freedom of Information request. The group said the observations include alleged procurement irregularities, contract splitting, questioned tax-clearance documents, contractor overpayments, payments lacking evidence of execution, tax under-deductions and possible misapplication of funds. It also asked for clarification on five vehicles reportedly recorded in NiDCOM’s books but not found during physical verification. GIW stressed that audit observations are not proof that money was stolen or misappropriated. It said its aim is to verify whether the issues were resolved, funds recovered where necessary and proper documentation exists. NiDCOM reportedly withheld some additional records under the FOI Act and described the campaign as blackmail, an allegation GIW rejected.
