Video Shows Police Officer Removing Lexus Number Plate as Driver Questions the Reason
A video circulating online shows a Nigerian police officer using a screwdriver to remove the rear number plate of a black Lexus SUV registered in Anambra State. In the 41-second clip, the driver repeatedly asks why the plate is being removed and what offence he allegedly committed. He says he is recording the encounter and asks the officer not to damage his vehicle. The driver also says he has a tinted-glass permit but has misplaced it. The officer gives no explanation in the part of the video shown. Because the footage does not show what happened before the stop, it is unclear whether the officer had legal grounds to remove the plate. The clip has raised questions about police powers during routine vehicle checks.
