How Much of Nigeria’s Capital Budget Has Reached Visible Projects?
The Federal Government has allocated trillions of naira to roads, hospitals, schools and other infrastructure. But budget approvals do not automatically mean funds were released, spent or converted into completed projects. Government figures indicate that ₦3.10 trillion, about 17.7% of the 2025 capital budget, had been released by the third quarter of 2025. Another ₦2.23 trillion was reportedly released by June for capital projects carried over from the 2024 budget. The 2026 budget allocates about ₦32.2 trillion to capital expenditure. Nigerians need project-by-project records showing allocations, releases, payments to contractors, locations, progress and expected completion dates. Residents should be able to verify what was approved and compare it with what exists on the ground. Where projects are delayed or abandoned, the responsible agencies should explain the reasons, disclose spending so far and provide clear completion timelines.
