I Chose Myself After Years of Heartbreak and Unfulfilled Promises
I became a mother at a young age and spent years in a difficult relationship marked by financial struggle, control and conflict. After leaving, I worked, continued my education and focused on raising my two children. Later, I entered a relationship with a married man who supported me and my children. When his wife died, I hoped we would build a life together, but he chose to start over with someone else. Another relationship years later ended when I refused to wait on promises of a future abroad. Now 51, I have made peace with being single. I am proud of the life I built for myself and my children. Companionship would be welcome, but I no longer see marriage as the measure of a fulfilled life.
