Why Learning a Skill Is Not Enough to Start Earning From It
I think many beginners misunderstand what it takes to earn from an online skill. They spend weeks or months watching videos, taking courses, practising and collecting certificates, then wonder why clients are not coming. Learning a skill answers one question: “Can I do this?” Making money from it raises other questions: Who needs this service? What problem can I solve? How can I prove that I can solve it? Where do I find clients, and how do I price and present my offer? For example, learning graphic design does not automatically bring customers. You still need a clear target market, a portfolio, an understanding of clients’ needs and the confidence to make an offer. The same applies to copywriting, digital marketing, virtual assistance, social media management and video editing. The skill is the tool. Income comes when you use that tool to solve a specific problem for someone willing to pay. At some point, you must move from learning and practising to solving problems, making offers and finding clients. If you have a skill but are not earning from it yet, what is your biggest challenge: getting clients, marketing yourself, setting prices or something else?
