Activist Exposes Army’s Alleged False Link Between IPOB and Kidnapping

Activist Exposes Army’s Alleged False Link Between IPOB and Kidnapping — 1 of 4

On April 14, 2026, the Nigerian Army announced a precision strike in Ajali Forest, Enugu State. It claimed to have forced IPOB/ESN fighters into retreat, seized an anti-tank IED and destroyed suspected camps. In a related operation in Uzo-Uwani LGA, troops said they arrested a kidnap suspect and recovered ₦2 million believed to be ransom funds alongside a pump-action rifle. The official statement was accompanied by images of soldiers cutting trees and detained individuals. Prominent activist Harrison Gwamnishu refuted the IPOB link. He explained he tracked a separate civilian kidnapping, collaborated with the 82 Division Garrison and secured the arrest. He confirmed the rifle and money came from a ransom payment, not a separatist network.
