ISWAP Fighters Abduct Over 50 Students in Borno After Boko Haram Clash
Militants from ISWAP abducted over 50 students from Mussa Askira Primary School in Uba, Borno State. The raid followed a deadly clash in which Boko Haram’s JAS faction had beaten ISWAP fighters and occupied their camp for days. According to Samaila Ibrahim Kaigam of the Borno South Youth Alliance, ISWAP returned on a revenge mission. Failing to locate their rivals, they kidnapped the schoolchildren instead. Efforts are ongoing to negotiate the students’ release. There are fears the group may not demand ransom or publicly acknowledge the abduction. Witnesses say soldiers in the area fled as the raid unfolded, surprising locals who expected protection from the military.
