Heroic Father and Daughter Perish in Midnight Church Fire in Minna
A devastating blaze broke out at St. Andrew Anglican Church residence in Sabon Gari, Minna, on March 2, 2026. Forty-five-year-old Ikechukwu Michael Njoku woke to smoke and flames and ran into the fire to rescue his 6-year-old daughter, Esther. Esther died instantly, and Njoku sustained severe burns. He fought for his life for two weeks at IBB Specialist Hospital but passed away on March 16. His wife and their three other children remain hospitalized with serious injuries. The funeral for father and daughter is set for March 27 in their hometown of Mebiokpa Okposi Ohozara, Ebonyi State. This tragedy underscores life’s fragility.
