Is Christianity in Nigeria a Distorted Version of Jesus’ Teachings?
Many of us believe that the version of Christianity brought to Africa, including Nigeria, was shaped to serve colonial interests. In this view, the teachings were altered and diluted to help outsiders gain influence over African people and resources. Nigerian churches, the argument goes, still use this version to manipulate and control Christians. Jesus did not come to establish the church structure we know today. He came to show people the way to God, who is within us. His words that we are gods, that the body is God’s temple, and that the kingdom of God is within us point to this deeper message. Jesus also taught meditation and consciousness, and his death is understood here as payment for our karmic debt. As more people return to African traditional worship, this view suggests that they may be overlooking what it calls an upgrade: Jesus as the new Source Code.
