NFF Should Retain Eguavoen Only If He Delivers With Super Falcons, Coach Says
A grassroots football coach has urged the Nigeria Football Federation to retain Austin Eguavoen as Super Falcons coach only if he produces strong results during his interim spell. Eguavoen was appointed after Justine Madugu and his technical crew were dismissed following Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2027 Women’s World Cup. The Super Falcons lost to South Africa in the continental playoff, ending their bid to reach the tournament for the first time since it began in 1991. The former Super Eagles coach is expected to lead the Falcons in their October 2028 Olympic Games qualifier against Comoros. The coach said Eguavoen’s experience in the men’s game could benefit the team, as football tactics and management principles apply across both men’s and women’s football. He said the NFF should assess Eguavoen based on results, team development and his relationship with the players before deciding whether to offer him the job permanently.
