11- and 7-Year-Old Girls Flee Boko Haram Camp in Mandara Mountains, Surrender to Troops

Two young girls, ages 11 and 7, believed to be related to Boko Haram fighters, escaped the Grazah enclave in the Mandara Mountains. They made their way to a military position in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State and surrendered on July 21, 2026. Troops of C Company, 192 Battalion under Operation HADIN KAI received the minors at about 3:55 p.m. The children were properly screened, documented, and are now in custody for further profiling and administrative action. Their surrender adds to a growing number of women and children escaping insurgent enclaves as sustained operations continue to pressure Boko Haram and ISWAP strongholds across the North-East.
