Michael Kayode Explains Why He Chose Italy Over the Super Eagles
Brentford defender Michael Kayode says he chose to represent Italy despite being approached by the Nigeria Football Federation. The 22-year-old, who was born in Italy to Nigerian parents, said the decision was straightforward because he had progressed through Italy’s youth national teams. He scored the winner for Italy in the 2023 UEFA European Under-19 Championship final against Portugal. Kayode has now received his first senior call-up to the Italy squad. He said wearing the Azzurri shirt has always been a personal dream, effectively ending any prospect of a future Super Eagles switch.
