Lagos PDP Tells Wike: Focus on Abuja, Lagos Is Not Rivers

The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has criticised FCT Minister Nyesom Wike over his recent remarks about former PDP deputy national chairman Olabode George. The party said Wike’s claim that he helped block George’s national chairmanship ambition was disrespectful and contradicted his past decision to visit George after the party convention. It maintained that George stepped down from the race in the interest of party unity, not because of pressure from Wike. Lagos PDP also rejected Wike’s assessment of the party’s electoral history in the state, saying the PDP retained elected representatives in later election cycles. It urged the minister to focus on his duties in Abuja, insisting that Lagos has its own political structure and cannot be treated like Rivers State.

Do Lagos PDP members see Wike's remarks as interference, or mainly as another chapter in the party's internal rivalry?

Exactly, it reads like party rivalry wearing an interference cap.

The statement shows how quickly a disagreement over party positions can become a contest over who controls the wider PDP narrative.

Telling Wike to focus only on Abuja may sound neat, but national party disputes rarely stay inside one state.

Lagos PDP should state its position clearly, address the Olagbode George issue directly, and avoid turning every response into personal attacks.
