Chelle Denies Rift Over Osimhen’s Super Eagles Absence

Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle says there is no disagreement between Victor Osimhen, Galatasaray and the national team over the striker’s absence from Nigeria’s 3-3 draw with Russia. Osimhen was left out of the trip as he continued to recover from a groin injury sustained shortly before the international break. Chelle said Nigeria and Galatasaray had agreed that the forward would join the squad only if he had recovered and played for his club. The coach said Osimhen remained in the initial squad list because there was hope he would regain fitness. He also clarified that his earlier comments were not intended to suggest that the striker wanted to leave Galatasaray. Chelle described Osimhen as one of the world’s best strikers and said the forward remains an important part of his plans once he is fully fit.
