Former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has formally assumed office as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Spain after presenting his Letters of Credence to King Felipe VI in Madrid on 14 September 2026. The ceremony completes his accreditation as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary. He had earlier submitted copies of his credentials to Spain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in July. Ikpeazu said Nigeria would pursue stronger ties with Spain in trade, investment, energy, agriculture, infrastructure, education, tourism and security. He also highlighted the need to improve direct air links between both countries to support business and travel. He added that Nigerians living in Spain would remain important partners in deepening relations between Abuja and Madrid.
