My father married my mother out of pity, but he soon regretted it. He even hit her when he discovered she had an abortion for him. In 2013, he moved to China and ended up jailed for 12 years. From prison, he told my mother to sell only his car to pay our school fees. Instead, she sold all our property and moved into a cheaper house. She began ignoring his calls and sometimes hung up on him. In 2017, she had an affair, got pregnant and ran away after my uncle’s wife spotted her condition at our grandfather’s burial.
