Kawas Says He Funded His Own Support for Peter Obi’s 2023 Campaign

Archbishop Leonard Bature Kawas says he supported Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential campaign without receiving money for transportation or other expenses. He said he attended campaign events across Nigeria at his own cost and was never asked how he got to the venues. Kawas also described himself and his group as the “real bishops” and said Cardinal John Onaiyekan was wrong in his assessment of the Tinubu administration.
